About Rovinj

Rovinj old town
Rovinj is surrounded by 13 islands, three of them populated with tourists who are staying in the hotels over the summer, and the rest of them are uninhabited, offering perfect daily visits, and rest stops for day at the beach on those islands. Rovinj archipelago is beautiful, with plenty of green and local flora and fauna. Rovinj is an active fishing port, and is within easy sailing distance of the historic Italian port city of Trieste, which may explain Rovinj's large Italian community.
The largest baroque building in Istria, the 57m (187ft) high Cathedral of St. Euphemia, dominates the town. It was built when Rovinj was the bulwark of the Venetian fleet. St. Euphemia's remains were brought here from Constantinople in 800 AD, 500 years after she was martyred, and on 16 September every year devotees congregate at her tomb.
A century old Rovinj Aquarium has an excellent collection of local marine life, including poisonous scorpion fish and colorful anemones. The Punta Corrente Forest Park, south of the town, is a lovely spot for a swim and a meditative gaze out to sea. It is protected from any type of motor transportation, thus providing quiet surrounding for those who enjoy their day at Punta Corrente green fields and forest. You can get to Rovinj by bus from most Croatian towns and by ferry in summer from Trieste in Italy.
Istria is one of the most attractive coastal areas on the Adriatic coast. Yearly it attracts thousands of tourists, who are looking for natural beauty and authentic environment. Very little has changed over the years in regards to the natural beauty of this peninsula.
Weather-wise, May to September are the best months to visit Istria, though July and August can be busy along the Adriatic coast. For those who prefer more quiet vacation time, September is probably the best time to visit. By then the coastal area cities are less crowded and off-season rates apply. In April and October it may be too cool for camping, but the weather is usually fine along the coast and private rooms are plentiful and inexpensive. You can swim in the sea from early-June to late September.
